INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL

Entrepreneurship is increasingly recognized as an important driver of economic growth of the country. Even Government of India has recognized the importance of entrepreneurship and introduced programs like “Make in India”, "Skill India” & “Start-up India”.

With the holistic intention of inculcating entrepreneurship skills among the students, MIT Group of Institutes has established an Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IED Cell) inaugurated by honorable chief guest Dr. Ravindra Pastaur, Commissioner Ujjain District on 29th March 2016.

The IED Cell provides a platform for the students to pursue entrepreneurial activities and also provide assistance to potential entrepreneurs. The prime goal of IED Cell is to inspire and guide start-ups & to foster an entrepreneurial culture in the campus of MIT Group of Institutes. The IED Cell is committed to assisting students in every stage of the lifecycle of an enterprise – right from inspiration, ideation and initiation, to incubation, investments and internationalization for both mainstream innovations as well as ventures around social innovation and sustainability.

Objectives

  • To create entrepreneurial culture in the parent institution and other institutions in the region and to promote the objectives of NSTEDB.
  • To inculcate within the faculty and the students the need and importance of enterprise development.
  • To foster fruitful linkages between parent institutions, entrepreneurship support agencies, entrepreneur networks assisting necessary guidance required at each stage of startup.
  • To respond effectively to the emerging challenges and opportunities both at national and international level relating to SMEs and Micro Enterprises.
  • To act as a catalyst in facilitating with the appropriate platform for tapping entrepreneurial young minds through well-directed activities.
  • To foster better linkages between the parent institution, industries and R&D institutions in the region and other related organizations engaged in promoting Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) including NGO sand other voluntary organizations.

Functions

  • To conduct Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EAC), Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDP), Faculty Development Programs (FDP) and Skill Development Programs (SDP) for the science & technology persons of our institute as well as from neighboring institutions.
  • To guide and assist prospective entrepreneurs on various aspects such as Product Identification (PI), Market Survey, Tools for Market Research, Loans and Facilities from agencies of support systems, preparation of Project Reports and assist them in getting Technical Feasibility Report.
  • To organize guest lectures, TV & Radio talks, Seminars, etc. for promotion and growth of S& T based entrepreneurship.
  • To arrange visits to industries for prospective entrepreneurs.
  • To act as a Regional Information Centre on business opportunities, processes, technologies, market, etc. by creating and maintaining relevant databases.
  • To provide testing, calibration, quality assurance, design, tool room, pilot plant and other facilities for entrepreneurs besides expertise in Intellectual Property Rights, Patents search etc.

We continually strive to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem to provide the platform for creative and intellectual students with potential for substantial business opportunities.

The IED Cell is committed to assisting students in every stage of the lifecycle of an enterprise – right from inspiration, ideation and initiation, to incubation, investments and internationalization for both mainstream innovations as well as ventures around social innovation and sustainability.

IED Cell at MIT Group of Institutes is having an organized structure with expert and dedicated team of actively working faculties who have an industry exposure along with student representatives. To execute the entire institute’s. plan, a parallel team has been created where students involve themselves by participating through E-Cell. In any academic entrepreneurial ecosystem E-Cell is formed and managed by students with the objectives of sensitization, conversion and developing connectivity with local level ecosystem.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (IED Cell) is dedicated to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among students. It is responsible for initiatives which would foster an environment which is conducive for entrepreneurship. Sincere efforts are made to ensure that original and innovative ideas get the right direction, molding these ideas into successful ventures.

We believe that entrepreneurship is a developmental process. Entrepreneurship education activities are real-life vehicles for developing academic skills. We recognize the importance of nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit from institute level, and continuing it right through all upcoming levels. We prefer infusing entrepreneurship in classes where it provides the context for learning other basic skills and motivating students to want to learn.

Mahakal Institute of Technology (MIT), Ujjain one of the most prime innovative educational institute of Madhya Pradesh, has been approved as Host Institute / Business Incubation Center (HI / BI) in January 2020 by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India to provide its students first hand real experience of innovation and entrepreneurship.

In the era of continuous transformation, fast changing demands of industry and for achieving national goals like Make in India, Start-up India & Aatmanirbhar Bharat, we believe that an Incubation Centre is equally essential in educational institutions to set up an ecosystem for mentoring and incubation of upcoming entrepreneurs. Mahakal Institute of Technology (MIT), Ujjain (Run by: Prasar Shikshan evam Seva Sansthan (PSSS), Ujjain) has been giving appropriate guidance to the students for opening of new Start-ups in the field of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the last four years, in which administrative and financial assistance is provided to them.

Notable Achievements:

  •  10 Innovative Start-up Idea Proposals (2020-2021) have been submitted by the Incubatees under the “Scheme for Providing Support for Entrepreneurial & Managerial Development of MSMEs” through HI/BI Mahakal Institute of Technology, Ujjain.
  •  02 Innovative Start-up Idea Proposals (2020-2021) have been listed by the Department of MSME, Govt. of India for presentation before the committee.
  •  The HI/BI Mahakal Institute of Technology, Ujjain had also received 21 Innovative Start-up Idea Proposals from the Incubatees in “Ideas for New India Challenge 2020” under the scheme of the Office of Development Commissioner – MSME, for “Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of MSMEs through Incubators”.
  •  The HI/BI Mahakal Institute of Technology, Ujjain had also received 12 Innovative Start-up Idea Proposals from the Incubatees in “MSME Idea Hackathon-2022” under the “Incubation Component of MSME Innovative Scheme (Incubation, Design & IPR) of MSME Champion Scheme for GoI assistance”.
  •  05 Innovative Start-up Idea Proposals from the Incubatees in “MSME Idea Hackathon-2022” had been recommended & forwarded to Department of MSME, Govt. of India for further processing by Selection Committee Meeting held at HI-MIT, Ujjain.
  •  Currently, 05 Start-up units are located in the Centre.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY PROTECTION CELL (IPP CELL)

MIT Group of Institutes recognizes the need for encouraging the practical application and economic use of the results of research carried out at MGI; therefore it has developed an IP Policy to provide for protection of IP through patents, copyrights, design registrations and trademarks and to ensure that monetary and other benefits derived from IP are distributed to the Researcher(s), MGI and other parties as appropriate; and to address ownership issues related to IP created by Researchers, Students & Faculty in the course of their duties or activities at MGI.

The IP policy has come in effect from 1st July 2017. As of now, one patent is already applied under this cell.

This Policy aims to:
i) Promote& encourage R&D;
ii) Provide IP protection in research activities and technology-based relationships with third parties;
iii) Ensure timely and efficient protection and management of IP;
iv) Ensure economic benefits arising from commercialization of IP are distributed in a fair and equitable manner recognizing contributions of Inventors, MGI and other stakeholders.
